B3U5-Canada: the true north-Canadian Railroad Trilogy
2018-09-05

Background of this Song

Canadian Railroad Trilogy is a folk song that describes the building of the trans-Canada Canadian Pacific Railway in the early 1880s, written, composed, and performed by Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. Not only does this song echo the optimism of the railroad age and involve some typical natural scenery in Canada, it also chronicles the cost in sweat and blood of building "an iron road running from the sea to the sea."
